EVALUATION - Q2. How does your media product represent particular social group?

My magazine follows the stereotypical view that young teenage girls are interested in music, fashion and establishing relationship between their friends and family. Within my magazine it includes these topics as I know that will appeal to my audience.
The social group Miss Pop represents would be the demographic profile of my target audience
It represents them in a positive light as it doesn’t express the view that young teens are trouble makers, which the media can sometimes highlight.
I believe that my magazine represents similar social groups to magazines such as Top of the Pops and Shout magazine. To highlight the similarities I am going to compare a photo of Rosa to a photo from Top of the Pops magazine.

Both images are of the female stars smiling and making direct eye contact. Both connote that the females are happy and confident as they are smiling. It is important that Rosa is smiling and portrayed as happy as the target audience of Miss Pop is predominately young girls who dont' have any worries or stresses. Also her relaxed pose represents her as relaxed rather than a serious, straight facial expression which would more so be associated with rock.
The lighting is also very similar although, the background colour is different, the flash highlights the side of their cheekbones and makes their skin look glowing.

Rosa may be presented as a constructed star following Richard Dyers Theory that icons and celebrities are constructed by institutions for financial gain and target one specific audience/ group of people. I mention the star theory as Rosa is presented as having the perfect image with fashionable clothes, full face of makeup and glossy hair. However Rosa breaks the theory as she does have a clear talent in music.
