PLANNING - Important and final changes

The most important factor after reflecting on my drafts and analysing my focus groups feedback is that the name of the magazine SPLASH is better suited to be MISS POP.

Front cover changes
- I added a price, the date and the website link to keep up with the conventions of the magazine.
-I matched up the pink triangle in the corner with the bottom box to make the page look more neat.
-I added more anchorage text to 'Rosa Deane'
-Real images along the bottom, to make the front cover look more realistic
-I changed the font to a more girly style to suit the genre of the magazine, also because it will appeal to the target audience.

Content page changes
-I Added more content, will appeal to the audience as many look at contents page when deciding to buy the magazine
-Editors note was a feature I discovered when doing my research, I thought it was an effective way to give the audience a quick insight in to what's included in the magazine.
-I used a variety of images to make the page more appealing, I tried to include as many real shots taken by either myself or other media students instead of the Internet to make it more realistic.
-I ensured the house style for the final piece was pink and blue to follow the house styles instead of pink and black

Double page spread changes
- to the house style colours of pink and blue
-brightened images, to make them look more high solution and perfect to suit the ideas that all pop stars are constructed and perfect (Richard Dyers theory)
-I added more detail to the double page spread by adding a black and white image to the back of the text of Rosa Deane.
-I decided to choose the page with the 4 images that follow the pop art style which mirrors the iconic pop art images
-added the word exclusive and page numbers to follow the feature of an exclusive feature double page spread on a band or artists typically included a exclusive interview with the star.

The pitch , target audience, audience demographic profile all remain the same.

PLANNING - Focus group analysis - Front cover/ contents page / double page spread

What features do you like about each of the front covers?
  • The black and white was the least favourite, as they felt it didn't portray the pop genre as it may be more suited for rock and indie (therefore i eliminated that colour scheme).
  • The name 'Splash' reminded them of the popular TV show which is sport related, however they liked the positing and size.
  • As it is a music magazine, they felt the 'spring must haves' should be related to music.
  • The colour scheme, of blue and pink works well with the genre and the high quality main image.
  • They liked the colours, as it allows the house style, therefore it has the potential to become an recognisable brand

What features would you change on the front covers?
  • On the front cover, the context should be either all images with minimum text or just text. Not a mixture of both

Is there any features or conventions of a pop magazine that is missing or that you would like to see?
  •   All of the layouts have all of the conventions are needed such as the masthead, bar code, however ensure both the issue number and price is included.

Actions after hearing feedback

I Decided to change the name from 'Splash' to 'Miss Pop', this response was solely due down to the focus group. As for me the word 'splash' connotes a large, colourful, important bit on information. The definition is a sound made by something striking or falling into liquid. So i thought it suited the genre as lots of information will be given in the magazine as people use the magazine for surveillance.
However the link to the TV programme and sports, put my focus group off and therefore may put my potential target audience of so i changed it to Miss Pop, as the audience is predominately young girls, who are interest in the pop genre and have a poppy personality .

What features do you like about each of the contents page?
They liked the 'inside your mag' they thought the magazine felt personal

What features would you change on the content page?
Add more content and images

Is there any features or conventions of a pop magazine that is missing or that you would like to see?
No, potentially an introduction to magazine, maybe editors note
Actions after hearing feedback
-I added an editors note section in the top left corner
-more content with real images
-changed the colour scheme to just blue and pink instead of black as well to follow the house style

What features do you like about each of the double page spreads?
-liked the variety of clear images, Rosa looks happy in them all
-social networking links are good, I follow many of my favourite bands and artists on twitter to keep updated
What features would you change on the double page spreads?
- add the word exclusive and page numbers to follow the convention
Is there any features or conventions of a pop magazine that is missing or that you would like to see?
No
Actions after feedback
I added the word 'Exclusive' to ensure I met the conventions of a double page spread in a music magazine

PLANNING- Double Page Spread - Interview

Rosa Deane, 17 has made her stamp on to the music industry, and with a band!!! Rosa has recently topped the UK charts with her single ‘Live for today’, which critics have described as fresh, fierce and fun. Rosa has let us have an exclusive insight into how her life has changed from her humble beginning and never losing sight of that ONE goal, to make it! (+ All those questions WE want to know).

Hi Rosa! How are you? How does it feel to have made your break onto the music scene?
Hey, I’m good thanks, I know it crazy to think how much has changed in such little time, it feels amazing!!!  To know that people out there are enjoying and sharing my passion with music.

What changes have you had to make to adapt to the life of a star?
(Laughs] I wouldn’t call myself a star yet that’s for sure, but no change I’m still the exact same person, personally I don’t think there is any reason why fame should go to someone’s head, however it is funny when I get asked for a picture when popping to the shop to get some chocolate.

What where you doing this time last year?
Local gigs, friends parties nothing major just trying to perform to others as often as I could  it was great to perform in front of new crowds but also to see familiar faces regularly .Whom  soon became a fan base for me. A lot of juggling had to be done between my dreams though and reality back than as I was actually studying my GCSEs during the time.

What was it like to perform In front of a crowd for the first time? Do the nerves get easier?
The very first time, the nerves were overwhelming but now it gets easier, as they say practise make perfect.. Having hundreds of faces staring out you can be pretty daunting especially when  I was  used to putting little shows on for my Mum and  Dad.

You’ve been compared to the likes of Taylor Swift? Does that add any pressure to what people’s expectations for you are?
Yes, because she is amazing and SO well known and respected worldwide! it’s a real compliment to be compared to Taylor, I mean everyone knows who Taylor Swift is and the lyrics to her catchy songs (sings - I  Knew you were trouble when you walked in). Her lyrics all have so much meaning, she is a true inspiration!

Do you get your inspiration from anywhere? Or anyone?
Yeah! I’ve had a lot of past experience with bullying growing up in High School, and I wanted to express my feelings through songs as that’s what I find easiest, also I hope that it will help others out there and they can end up the better person!

Are you on this journey on your own? Or do you have a boyfriend?
On my own (laughs) I’m still young and I have a lot of opportunities coming my way, and at the moment in time my focus and heart is set on making music and performing to others, making sure that they are enjoying my music as much as I am ! So for now NO boyfriend, however if the right guy came at the right time I wouldn’t say no (laughs)

What qualities do you look for in a boy? Any celeb crushes?
Hmmmm, definitely a sense of humour has to be the most important thing, if you can make me laugh you will steal my heart (laughs) also a good smile, can’t go wrong with a good smile! Oooh celeb crushes I love all of 1D, they seem such cool guys but Niall has to be my favourite I love his accent and his smile.

So what can we expect from Rosa Deane in the near future?
I’ve got a new album coming out next week, ‘Today’s the day’ which has a huge variety of songs from calm, acoustic ,solely written songs to catchy chorus’s upbeat tunes. One of the major hits on there is ‘Today’ co written with Pixie Lott! That was one of the best experiences! You can also download the singles on their own on ITunes! I’ve got a few gigs all over the place, album, signing on the 21st at WHSmith, Oxford Street. Follow me on twitter @RosaDeane to get all the latest juicy goss and details of where I am located in the world (laughs) as I’m currently here, there and everywhere. However my priority is definitely to start meeting  and greeting my fans to show my appreciation!

And finally thanks for coming in Rosa it’s been great talking to you,  before you leave us  tell us  what is the  Ultimate dream?
Its been my pleasure, will look forward to coming back and I would love to one day get a No.1 single or even album if I’m lucky (laughs).

Rosa single ‘Live for today’ is available to download on Itunes right now! And the album ‘Todays the day’ comes out next week!

I chose for my double page spread to be in a question and answer format rather than an article. Behind my choice where many reasons, the most dominant one being the target audience of the magazine who are young teens. Therefore  an interview would interest them over a long winded descriptive article as they can find quick facts out about their favourite star as they read magazine for surveillance to gather information and secrets about their star .Young teens use magazine as a sense of diversions as magazines are a form of personal entertainment, so a interview is more suited as its just a quick, fun thing to read along with pictures. Furthermore when reading the artists answers the reader can personally relate to the answers, through this they can discover role models and be able to relate to them for instance the reader may also agree that Niall from One Direction is their favourite,
